Did another live redux set for our all day takeover of Marz Community Club. IMO their soundsystem is set up pretty well for a bar, which is generally a challenging environment for listening to amplified music.

As I started prepping for this set, an image popped in my head from one of the final scenes in Neuromancer where the AI, Neuromancer, finally reveals itself to Case and chooses to appear as young brazilian boy on a beach.
I had a lot of fun following this prompt: I was drawn to the digital surrealness, serenity, and trippy tropical feelings of the scene- listening back, I’m happy with how I conveyed that in my selection and sequence. I also decided to take a stab at my own visual rendition of the scene for my mix image:

I’d also like to share a thought re: an unexpected restriction imposed on me for this mix. Marz’ in-house mixer was an austere rotary mixer, lacking effects, providing only hi-lo channel eq controls. It took a bit to settle in, as I had previously imagined the songs blending more via effects. In the booth, though, I enjoyed being forced to listen more carefully if I wanted to have smooth transitions. I think this also helped me focus instead on ensuring the keys between songs were aligned; which I feel is a strength of this mix that kind of resulted in the mix feeling smooth anyway.
I wasn’t totally satisfied with my time management on this mix, and I would definitely like to step back next time and feel out the flow better.. but overall am happy to share this with the net.
